Methanol Price Soars

June 30, 2008  From www.chinainfoworld.com

(June 30)--Lately, the supply of coal and natural gas has been in shortage and most methanol facilities that suspended production for overhaul can not become operational on schedule. In addition, the earthquake that jolted Wenchuan in Sichuan Province caused serious railway transportation blockages for lower priced methanol products. Along with the supply volume cuts, the rising demand from the downstream dimethyl ether, methanol gasoline and formaldehyde industries and the injection of venture capital in the industry, the sales price of methanol surged in May. Experts estimate that in the short-term the methanol price will continue to see an abnormal trend but that it will start declining soon.
